Ministries
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
The New Testament repeatedly describes the church as the body of Christ, emphasizing that we as individual Christians are related both to God and to one another. In a diverse assembly composed of different genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds, God has united us by filling us each with his Spirit. We demonstrate that unity by serving one another, and we demonstrate God’s desire that his body increase by serving others.
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.
Servanthood symbolizes weakness to many in our contemporary culture, yet nothing could be less truthful. When James and John asked for a position of authority in His coming kingdom, Jesus was quick to point out that they were trying to understand His kingdom in worldly terms. Instead, Jesus told them, authority in His kingdom looks much different: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26). And it was this spirit of servanthood that Jesus displayed in His earthly ministry: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).
The members of Living Way Church are faithful in their service to God and to others. Dynamic ministries provide wonderful benefits for and opportunities for service to our youth, our children, and ladies. Children desiring to commit God’s Word to memory are blessed with the ministry of junior Bible quizzing. Youth likewise can reap the rewards of scripture memorization as they participate in the ministry of senior Bible quizzing. These and other ministries are open to everyone and the spiritual fellowship and growth they foster contribute to the powerful move of God’s Spirit that continually visits Living Way Church.
