The 86th Annual General Conference of the United Pentecostal Church International will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, from September 29, 2010, to October 3, 2010. Highlights of the conference include the historical drama Healed in Houston, the Youth Service at noon on Saturday, and the “Houston Ablaze” Crusade at 5:00 p.m on Sunday. God’s people, whether ministry or laity, must be prepared for the challenges presented to us by our society and by our times. The vision of ExCeLL is to equip the church to accomplish this task. Paul expressed our goal well: “To prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13, NIV). For many ministers and laypersons the dream of attending a distant Bible college is only that – a dream. ExCeLL offers an unprecedented opportunity for training and study of the Word right in the local church. A twelve-course curriculum has been prepared which will equal one full year of studies at Texas Bible College. Classes convene one night per week for a period of eleven weeks in the spring and the fall. The courses offered during the fall session of 2010 will be Doctrine II and Hermeneutics.

Our 2010 fundraising campaign for Sheaves for Christ concludes on Sunday, August 29. Results of the seed money investments are due that day, and a sacrificial offering will be taken during our worship service. Living Way Church is hosting the 20ten 5k run to raise funds for missions. The run for missions will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, at Carl Barton Park in Conroe, Texas. Children 11 and under can register for $10 each; registration for adults is $15. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers; door prizes will be given at the conclusion of the race, including a one-year family membership to the Conroe YMCA. All children from age four to age eleven are invited to Kids’ Church this Sunday, August 22, following Sunday School. While others are enjoying our worship service in the sanctuary, kids will be taking part in a great time of fun, games, singing, and learning. Everyone who attends will receive a small prize, and drawings will be held for several larger prizes. The theme of this edition of Kids’ Church is “Back to School,” and puppet sightings around Living Way Church have been reported!

When walking out of a dark room into the sunshine, light can be blinding. As our eyes become accustomed to the light, we can see more clearly and enjoy the scenery that surrounds us. Likewise, when we look into the light of the Scriptures, the brightness of truth can sometimes hurt. However, as our spiritual eyesight becomes adjusted we can enjoy “walking in the light.” This Bible study is designed to allow us to “walk” in the marvelous light of the Word of God. We will be journeying into the Scriptures by imagining we are back in the days of Jesus and the Apostles, listening to them teach and preach the plan of salvation. We believe the Scriptures are divinely inspired and “of no private interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20, 21). Therefore, every effort has been made to present the pure Word of God without adding to it or taking away from its teachings (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5, 6). It is not our intention to diminish any personal relationship anyone may have with our Lord. Neither do we desire to convince anyone of our own personal ideas or the creeds of any denomination. We simply desire to share the truth as it is written. Only by claiming the Bible as our sole authority can any of us be confident of our salvation, for it is the Word of God and not the traditions of men that will judge us all in the end.
